Professional staff make up the majority of workers in Australia’s higher education sector. From student support and finance to IT, libraries, research support, HR, marketing, security, laboratories, and frontline services – we do the work that makes universities function. Our roles are incredibly diverse, but we’re united in one reality: universities can’t run without us.

Professional and academic staff may do different work, but we share a vision for what our universities should be – fair, respectful, inclusive, and public. We work together every day – and we organise together too.

Yet too often, professional staff are treated as invisible or second-class. We’re the first to be targeted in restructures, the last to be consulted, and frequently denied recognition for our contributions. That’s why being in the union matters.
