On Monday 30th March, Four Corners shone a light on the crisis in our universities.
ABC Four Corners’ Campus Chaos exposed a crisis that university staff have been warning about for years.
Alongside the turmoil at ANU, the episode featured UTS and UOW, and highlighted the pernicious role consultants now play in our public institutions — driving opaque restructures, corporate decision-making and decisions that staff and students are forced to live with.
These issues have also been at the centre of the NSW parliamentary inquiry into university governance.
NTEU members helped bring this story to life.
Members at NSW universities were at the heart of the evidence, the scrutiny and the public pressure. They stood up, spoke out, challenged the spin, and refused to accept that public universities should be run like corporate playthings.
Our universities belong to the communities they serve — not consultants, executives or management fads.
