Workers won’t pay for Trumps wars

NTEU NSW Division

4 May, 2026

NTEU NSW is joining with the NSW Teachers Federation and the Maritime Union of Australia in the Peace is Union Business coalition to oppose the US bombing of Iran and Trump’s drive to war.

Unions have always had a crucial role to play in opposing war. Working people are the ones sent to fight wars, the ones whose public services are cut to fund them, and the ones who pay the economic price through higher costs and greater insecurity.

The US bombing of Iran is not only a threat to peace. It is also a direct threat to workers’ living standards.

Conflict in the Middle East means market volatility, pressure on superannuation balances across the Australian economy, disruption to fuel supply, higher oil and petrol prices, renewed inflation pressure, and the risk of higher interest rates. These pressures flow directly into household budgets — through transport, groceries, mortgages, rents, and retirement savings.

Australian workers did not choose Trump’s war. We should not be made to pay for it.

NTEU NSW members are encouraged to join us at the US Consulate to call for peace and oppose workers being forced to bear the cost of war.
