BARGAINING

AT CSU

Your next Enterprise Agreement won by union members!

It's been months of hard and dedicated work by NTEU CSU members. We're proud of the outcome: we believe the new Agreement serves to safeguard and strengthen workplace rights for all staff at CSU.

NTEU reps advocated tirelessly throughout bargaining negotiations against a management team who offered a pay rise well below inflation and pushed back against key staff protections.

Continued member efforts have won significant improvements like sector-leading protections against Artificial Intelligence, fairer access to leave, and a real pay rise.

Now the Agreement will be put to a vote of all staff at CSU. After overwhelmingly endorsing the Agreement, NTEU members encourage all staff to vote 'yes' in the upcoming ballot.

Here's what we were able to gain for all CSU staff

  • Pay rise of 3.5% per year
  • Protections for professional staff workloads
  • Protections around the use of AI
  • Improved redeployment rights for redundant staff
  • Improved provisions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff including leave
Amongst a number of other wins, which we will share in our upcoming meetings.

We've only achieved these things through direct member action – meetings, support messages, our first strike action in more than 10 years – these were won for all staff at CSU!

Not a member?

What we really want staff at CSU to know is that these improvements don't just happen – we made them happen.

Improvements to our Enterprise Agreement have been won because NTEU members, regular staff just like you, joined together to demand more - it's a collective effort!

Your workplace rights are hard-won by your union colleagues and our overwhelming message is: don't thank us, join us!

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS

ABOUT BARGAINING?

Our Enterprise Agreement – that sets out working conditions at CSU – expired on 4 July 2025 and NTEU members are bargaining for a new Agreement.

Our union negotiated collective agreements lead to better wages and improved conditions. It's one of the ways for members to have a real say in their workplaces.

NTEU members at CSU voted to unanimously endorse our Log of Claims to advance bargaining in earnest.

The Log of Claims is a list of priorities that are widely and deeply felt in our workplaces that NTEU bargaining reps put to CSU management in negotiations.

Members then voted to endorse a Protected Action Ballot, for our right to take industrial action - this is a tool we can use to help advance our claims during negotiations. NTEU CSU members proudly took their first strike action in more than 10 years with a stop work! Since then, through meetings, support messages, and tireless advocate from the bargaining team in negotiations, we've been able to deliver a new and improved Enterprise Agreement.

Don’t forget, members have been central to the whole bargaining process. Members determine what we claim for, campaign in support of those claims, are the only ones able to take protected action, and ultimately decide whether the Union accepts an agreement with management.

For our non-member colleagues, make sure you join the NTEU to contribute to our campaigns. Because the more voices we have, the better our chance of winning and then enforcing improvements in our workplaces, which leads to better institutions, better lives for workers and better outcomes for students!
