NTEU University of Sydney on Strike

Wednesday 2nd September

NTEU members at the University of Sydney have spent this year campaigning for job security, safe workloads and fair pay. These are essential to maintaining high-quality education for our community.

Only NTEU members can take protected industrial action. Not a member? Join us today.

Why are we taking protected Industrial action?

As members, we don’t take the decision to strike lightly. There are deadlocks at the table. Management won't budge on AI protections, equal redundancy pay for professional staff and no forced redundancies, and want to introduce new categories of employment that will destroy the teaching-research nexus and are dead ends career-wise.  They also want to introduce change management provisions that reduces their obligations to genuinely consult.

How can you participate?

Along with the 24 hour strike, you can join our picket lines starting in the morning then the rally later in the day. Students, friends, families and members of our communities are all welcome!

If you still have questions and want to know more about taking industrial action, reach out to the branch.

You can also contribute to the strike fund. When we take action, some of our colleagues, especially casual and lower-paid staff, lose pay to stand up for all of us. The USYD Branch Strike Fund helps those members who can least afford it, and keeps our campaign strong and fair.

Before deciding on which picket line you'd prefer, we encourage you to talk to your colleagues and choose one to go to together. And if you are happy to attend any, we offer that option, too.
