UTS is celebrating International Women’s Day, while staff are still calling for basic parental rights.
Ahead of International Women’s Day, UTS is holding a major in conversation event where young women will be spotlighted to talk about challenging systems and amplifying underrepresented voices.
There’s just one problem – UTS wants to be at the forefront of representation and rights for women, but they’re actively denying staff critical parental rights at the bargaining table.
One of many challenges facing women today is the conflict between entering and progressing through the workforce, while also raising a family, all while facing growing cost of living pressures.
Parental leave, just like annual and sick leave, is a fundamental workplace entitlement and women make up an overwhelming 99.5% of the 180,000 parental leave payment recipients each year.
If we want a more secure future for women in our workplaces and parents across the board, UTS management needs to come to the bargaining table to meet the claims that members want to see progress on right away:
- 8 additional weeks of parental leave for Primary Carers (38 weeks total), and Co-Parents Leave (12 weeks total).
- 17.5% Super to be paid by UTS on unpaid periods of parental leave.
- Full entitlement to parental leave in case of Pregnancy loss, still birth and infant death.
- Remove discriminatory barriers to accessing parental leave.
- 15 days paid Reproductive Leave.
Who can join the Pram Jam?
Anyone not working from 9am-10am can join us. But members of the NTEU can also participate as part of their FWC approved Protected Industrial Action by stopping work for 1 hour. So we are asking all NTEU members whether you’re a parent or not, to stop work, and show up to support our claims!
Just last year, the Government announced a groundbreaking decision that impacted the lives of working women across the nation, with the addition of paid superannuation on Commonwealth Parental Leave Payments. This was thanks to the work of union members and advocates right across the country, and it’s proof that collective action works.
By pledging to take action, you can help us put enough pressure on UTS Management to win our demands and win a stronger Enterprise Agreement for everyone!
