BARGAINING

AT CSU

What's on?

 Academic Staff Meeting
12pm, Monday 20 April

Members meeting to discuss the issues specific to academic staff, especially those on which management’s pay offer is contingent.

 All Member Meeting
12pm, Thursday 23 April

For all members, to report back on the outcomes from the academics’ meeting and consider next steps.

We’ve gained some strong improvements, but management have pushed back against key outstanding protections that we all deserve. They have also made a salary offer well below inflation.

Management made a salary offer for 14% over 5 years. This equates to 2.8% per year (inflation is currently 3.7% per year in the December quarter and expected to come in at ~5.5% for the March Quarter).

We are going to have to fight to hold management to account - we deserve a pay rise of at least 3.5% per annum and not some fancy excuses.

We should feel empowered to raise our voices for basic assurances like an above inflation pay increase, fair workloads and reasonable job security guarantees...

...but it's going to take all our voices to ensure we get the change we want to see.

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS

ABOUT BARGAINING?

Our Enterprise Agreement – that sets out working conditions at CSU – expired on 4 July 2025 and NTEU members are bargaining for a new Agreement.

Our union negotiated collective agreements lead to better wages and improved conditions. It's one of the ways for members to have a real say in their workplaces.

NTEU members at CSU voted to unanimously endorse our Log of Claims to advance bargaining in earnest.

The Log of Claims is a list of priorities that are widely and deeply felt in our workplaces that NTEU bargaining reps put to CSU management in negotiations.

Members then voted to endorse a Protected Action Ballot, for our right to take industrial action. We haven't yet taken industrial action, but this is a tool we can use to help advance our claims during negotiations. Since last year, our bargaining team has been tirelessly advocating for our member-endorsed claims in negotiation with CSU management.

Don’t forget, members are central to the whole bargaining process. Members determine what we claim for, campaign in support of those claims, and ultimately decide whether the Union accepts an agreement with management.

For our non-member colleagues, make sure you join the NTEU to contribute to a strong bargaining campaign. Because the more voices we have, the better our chance of winning improvements to our workplaces, which leads to better institutions, better lives for workers and better outcomes for students!
